If you would like to enhance your breasts by improving their shape and symmetry and augmenting their size, but you prefer not to have breast implants, you have probably considered fat transfer breast augmentation.
Fat transfer breast enlargement is a popular treatment for breast enhancement because it provides very natural augmentation. Fat transfer provides a more modest size increase, by about two cups sizes, but can improve shape and symmetry, and because the tissue is your own fat cells, the breasts appear and feel completely natural.
However, during fat transfer breast augmentation, not all of the fat cells that are transferred survive. Let’s take a closer look at the success rate of fat transfer breast augmentation.
How does the procedure work?
Fat transfer breast augmentation begins with gentle liposuction in an area that has excess fat, such as the thighs, abdomen, or other areas, purifying the fat tissue, and precisely injecting it into the breasts.
The fat tissues are gently cleansed and selected to ensure the fat cells that are transferred are healthy and intact. This process helps provide fat cells for transfer that are viable and will survive well in the breasts, resulting in a higher success rate for fat transfer breast augmentation.
The purifying process must be done quickly to prevent a loss of cells due to a lack of blood supply. The longer the fat cells are outside of the body, the greater the risk that they will die.
What is the success rate of fat transfer to the breasts?
Once the viable fat cells are transferred into the breasts, some of the fat cells will not survive. Fat cells can die from lack of blood supply or from damage during the extraction process. In most cases, 75 to 80 percent of the fat injected will survive and be viable. Damaged fat cells that don’t survive the transfer process are absorbed and metabolized by the body.
Because your body will naturally absorb some of the new fat cells injected into the breasts during your recovery period, Dr. Engineer will compensate for this by injecting more fat tissue into your breasts during the initial procedure. After a month has passed, the number of fat cells in your breasts will have stabilized. There will be no further decrease of fat cells from this point.
However, while the fat cells that survive are considered permanent, the results still depend on maintaining your weight. If you experience significant weight loss, your breast size may decrease, just as would happen with your natural breast tissue. At the same time, significant weight gain will cause your breast size to increase.
