Fine lines and facial wrinkles appear due to a combination of two factors—the gradual loss of collagen from aging and other factors, and the daily, regular use of facial muscles.
When you smile, squint, or frown, you use facial muscles that create laugh lines around your eyes, vertical lines between your eyebrows (frown lines), or horizontal forehead lines. When you’re young, your skin’s natural collagen and hyaluronic acid reserves prevent these lines from appearing prominently. But as you age, your body’s ability to produce collagen decreases, leading to the prominent appearance of wrinkles on your face.
Dysport is a popular neurotoxin modulator used to relax your facial muscles, smoothing out your wrinkles and fine lines. Dysport contains abobotulinumtoxinA (Botulinum toxin type A), a drug that blocks communication between nerve endings and targeted facial muscles responsible for specific wrinkles and fine lines. By disrupting nerve signals, Dysport relaxes your facial muscles, prevents muscle contractions, and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Dysport must be carefully administered to target the muscles responsible for the wrinkles and not other facial muscles. Dysport is FDA-approved for treating glabella lines, i.e., the vertical lines between your eyebrows, but it can also be used to treat most other movement-related dynamic wrinkles on your face.

As Dysport takes a few days to do its work, you’ll see your first results within about 3 days, and will continue seeing improvements for a week. Your results will then last for 4 to 6 months, after which you will likely benefit from maintenance treatments.
